What to expect in the box, what to check before the first ride, and how to keep the bike safe over time.
What arrives assembled
Assembly requirements differ by model, and each product page states the manufacturer’s own description of how the bike ships. Bicycles commonly arrive largely pre-assembled, with the front wheel, handlebar, pedals, saddle and accessories to be fitted. Trikes and cargo bikes are more involved, typically requiring rear axle, basket or deck, and brake setup.
Before your first ride
- Confirm both wheels are fully seated and the axles or quick releases are correctly tightened.
- Check that the handlebar is aligned with the front wheel and the stem bolts are at the specified torque.
- Confirm pedals are fitted to the correct sides and fully threaded — the left pedal is reverse-threaded.
- Test both brakes at walking pace before riding at speed.
- Set tire pressure within the range printed on the sidewall.
- Confirm the seatpost is not raised beyond its minimum insertion mark.
- Charge the battery fully and confirm the display, lights and assist levels work.

After wet or salted rides
Rinse gently with low-pressure water, dry the frame and drivetrain, and re-lubricate the chain. Do not pressure-wash and do not aim water at the motor, display, connectors or battery bay.
